Another difficult coin to image. The reverse is intensely and not attractively toned. Luster, if any, is buried beneath the toning, specially on the reverse. It has some minor rim nicks here and there, and along the lower reverse, and softly struck in the area to the left below the eagle's talons. In spite of all that, I cannot see any obvious signs of wear on this coin. How would you grade it?

I always look forward to seeing your coins. To me there shows some slight wear on liberty's thigh. AU 58.

A really popular type, I think it grades AU-55.

I'm at 55 also. Love the reverse! When are you going to open your own Smithsonian to display your collection the public?

I'd call it an AU58 because there seems to be a slight lack of luster but I'd think there is a good chance a TPG says low MS

It's a nice coin, but I don't think it grades that high. I see light and even wear across all the high points of this coin. I'm actually going to be at AU-50. It might go into higher AU, but if the luster looks as poor (for an AU) as the pics, I think they'll have it lower. They really shouldn't, but I think it goes AU-50, with AU-55 being the max, and I see no chance at an MS grade.

55. Too little luster to go any higher. I think it's technically a 53 but I'll bump it for originality.

Thank you for the grade opinions, everybody.
Panzaldi, I appreciate the comments - as it is, I am happy if my wife allows me to personally view my own collection more than a few times a month. She insists I keep everything at the bank.

AU-53 for me. Nice details through the toning.

so nice and original and I love the mottled peripheral look when it gets like that especially on old 19th century silver. Gorgeous coin sir. AU58 all day IMHO

hmm...I agree that details are near MS, but lack of luster would keep the grade down. I'm not one to recommend a dip unless a coin is really unsightly, but it is possible that one could remove the toning that is shielding the luster and therefore improve a TPG grade if there is in fact more luster beneath the caked toning.
