Urgent for me anyway.

I ordered and received a 2013 Theodore Roosevelt Coin and Chronicles Set.

My question's are these;

Are these coins/medals struck differently then regular coins?

I mean the Proof dollar coin is fine BUT, the Silver piece looks like it was struck with a die that was about to be retired.

Low relief, the left shoulder, ( Teddy's right ), actually melts into the field.

There are hairlines running NW to SE that are in the fields as well as across the face and Bust of 'Teddy'. They don't however cross the Wording on the coin.

There are scratches at the base of the bust on the OBV and there are signs of wear in multiple areas on the REV.

Is this I should what expect of these because they are not "COINS"?

The 'copper' piece looks ok I guess.

Also, there is NOT a COA enclosed with the set. Just some writing on the reverse of the 'Presentation box' they came in, and that only has a statement about the Dollar Coin.

Is That right?

Now, I JUST got them about 15 min's ago so I would like to get some opinions as quickly as possible so I can call and return them as quickly as possible.

Can someone Please help ! ? !

Thank you all in advance,

Dar

I have seen a couple of sets with the hairline scratches you describe, but was not able to examine them closely enough to determine whether they are the result of die polish or actual post-minting damage/scratches. My guess is die polish. I did not expect to see such "lines" on the medal, however, so I didn't purchase either set I was offered. Maybe others can relate their experiences.

Many of the Mint's specially packaged sets do not include a separate COA - info is printed on the package itself. So, your experience is typical.

You may be mistaking "wear" for low-relief areas on the medal. It is not likely that the medal in your set has seen any type of "circulation" that would cause wear. It is more likely a case of a low-relief area on the die used to strike the medal or possibly uneven pressure applied during its striking.

Can you post a picture?

I will see what I can do about the picture's.

It's hard to get a good image in the capsule though due to reflection.

The wear I was referring to has the appearance of being rubbed on the holder if you know what I mean. The areas seam 'shiney' and prismatic as if rubbed against something and then only on the higher areas of the REV.

I concur, the "COA" is part of the package.

Both of my medals look fine. Would be interested in seeing what you mean.

Well, I just sent them out to be returned.

It 'looked' like the thing was harshly cleaned and the Die was over polished as well, which I don't understand.

I made sure it was Not the enclosure that was causing the affect.

I'll give an update when the replacement comes in. Most likely 2 weeks I imagine.

hello Dar,
I think the low relief on the left shoulder is part of the design. The scratches are obviously not part of the design. It is funny I didn't even think about the CoA until you mentioned it. I checked mine and it is on the back of the box. I have been thinking about getting another one. I wonder how much longer they will be available.

Well the site say's there is no production limit and seeing how it's a 2013 piece, I would GUESS that it should be until the end of this year?
