Theres a post on craigslist about someone offering sports memorabilia in trade for higher end Morgan dollars. I emailed him to see whats up and he said hes been trying to complete a morgan set for years. He has a huge collection of memorabilia as his dad was a dealer. I would be very suspicious, but he offered for me to come to his home to do the trade and to inspect his holdings. What do you guys think? I always worry about craigslist adds and the lunatics behind them.

Wait, who is trading what? You're getting Morgans in exchange for sports memorabilia? Or vice versa?

I guess if you aren't into coins and love sports memorabilia and happen to have a bunch of higher-end Morgans, it's a cool deal. Otherwise... it doesn't make much sense to me. I haven't followed the sports memorabilia market closely, but haven't prices really come down on most of that thanks to the internet and ebay? Also, why would somebody not interested in collecting Morgans have higher end Morgans?

I've always heard that under no circumstances should you meet a craigslist seller at a non-public place.

It all depends on what you're purchasing and price.

Leave your collection intact until you have a better grasp of what was left for you.

I wouldn't conduct a large cash transaction in a non-public setting. Couple hundred bucks though? As long as it isn't in a bad area I will do that.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm not trading anything. There is a post on craigslist of someone who is looking for higher end morgans for memorabilia. I certainly am not trading anything. For two reasons. 1- I dont even know that much about what I have. 2- I could care less about sports memorabilia. When he told me some of the items he had ie lou gehrig, babe ruth, mantle etc it still did nothing as I do t collect any of that. I guess this guy really loves his morgans

Yeah, why spend time playing with a CL listing when you could be posting more pictures of your collection.

Books about coins? If so yes. There were lots of signed first edition books (not coins). There was one from the 50's that detailed certain coins and there values. There was a part in there about Morgan dollars and the proof coins. Values were $20-$27 for uncirculated proofs. Most morgans were a few dollars. Unreal

I started using stickers to leave notes on certain coins so I dont forget whats told to me. Hope this dosent hurt the holders.

Dang, looks like you got a nice little inheritance there! The stickers wont hurt the slabs as long as you aren't putting them on top of other stickers.
