As today is the exact 100th anniversary of the formal start of World War I - August 4, 1914 - I thought I'd share the 2014 RCM WWI commemorative coins that I have in my collection.

2014 Silver Dollar - Declaration of War

WWI-Declared---100-Years-Ago-Today

2014 Silver 10 Dollar - Mobilisation of Our Nation

WWI-Declared---100-Years-Ago-Today

2014 Silver 5 Dollar - Canadian Expeditonary Force

WWI-Declared---100-Years-Ago-Today

What do others have?

And so started the largest Family squabble in history. The flower of youth of the early 20th century wiped out by incompetent and arrogant generals on both sides, all in the name of nationalism and colonialism . How sad! There are no winners from that conflict, as it only led to 1939 and round two. Will man ever learn?

My post wasn't meant to start a political debate, it was meant to recall those who served their country when asked to do so.

I very much like these coins they are nicely done. My uncles and father served in WWII so I like military history collectibles. Commems I do agree with your statement on the new $30.00 coin, I wished they had of kept them in a narrower denomination range to fit my other collections.

Got the identical collection commens, and like these the best with more to come no doubt..
I was surprised nothing for day one of the war...from the Mint.
...and...If I may add...very difficult not to be political on the topic of that war:
Good to remember those who readily jumped on ships to help out mother england...but 66,000+ young Canucks gave their lives for a war that never should have been...very p
oor diplomacy in Europe back them...
What were they thinking?

I think, unlike the "V-day"(s), the event itself (WWI) being commemorated, and no one celebrates the day.

Very true. Here on CCF, however, I only post about coins and never do so with any political intent. I reserve such discussions for other times/places. Just me...

Being apolitical is okay commens...for you...in this forum.

Having an opinion or comment about a coin or coins produced by a government agency that are designed to commemorate such a momentous historical event is inherently political...for me...and many.

Yesterday the topic of WWI - first day of the great war...was everywhere as you acknowledged with this thread...
Political commentary is inevitable - on this specific topic...
These coins are not depictions of wildlife or comic heroes - hence the political responses...
It can't be avoided nor should it.
So, having said all that - there ought to be more WWI commemorative coins this year!!

Commens, your scans are very good. I like the varying textures of frost which is particularly effective on the first coin. Made me regret I stopped buying from the RCM.

Temporarily.

As always, thank you for posting on this forum!

Agree with you commems, I find myself having to bite my tongue a lot during these releases, I suspect their sales reflect both sides of the issue ,but I digress.
