One of my favorite small size notes, my grandfather carried one of these in his pocket while serving in the Navy during WWII. My dad had it for a long time and then it found its way into my collection.
Do you also have the upper denominations?

I know I could look this up... but I think a candid answer from this group of knowledgeable folks would be much more interesting.
Why was "HAWAII" printed on these notes?

They were issued for Hawaii during WWII so that if the enemy occupied the territory they would be cancelled and considered worthless.

Thanks, jimbucks. I was in HI a couple weeks ago and visited Pearl Harbor. I didn't make it into the on-site museum there (went to the USS Missouri and the USS Arizona instead) but I bet there is a display of that currency there.
