As I mentioned, I do have trouble capturing how a coin really looks in hand. But here is the 85 CC

Wow! That spot between E and D on the reverse sucks, but otherwise, it looks like a solid 64PL, definitely no worse, with a shot at a +.

Here's a 64PL that sold on ebay recently;

I agree ... not sure how much it hurts the grade. This might be one I send in to NGC.

To me that is a crazy price on the link you posted.
Funny that coin also have a hit between E and D, but not as bad.

I'm pretty sure your coin is a solid 64, even with the issue on the reverse. I'd value it a touch less than that one, though, maybe closer to $2,250? It's a heck of a coin.

I'd definitely get it graded.

Did you notice the '84 I posted also has a hit between the E-D? Must be a magnetic spot.

I had to go back and look .. there must be something special about that spot ....

I think I will find myself checking that spot on other dollars I have.

Even though I've already seen that coin GR58, it's so wonderful.

Thanks ...

Yes .. I know I posted this coin when I bought it .. but he asked .. so I posted again ..

I thought this would be a good thread for the information.

I have noticed a couple threads lately asking about how many dollars (Morgan's) might be out there. And how many GSA's ....

It would be hard to tell how many have been cracked out of OGP holders.

I have a couple books that talk about dollars. I wanted to find the chart that showed how many might have been melted between 1918 and 194X .. but not sure which book I saw it in. It had a breakdown for each year.

If I remember right .. there were 850 million dollars minted between 1878 - 1935. Seems like I saw a quote where Leroy thinks there are over 350 million still around.

I suspect the black spot you all are looking at (and matched on the opposite side by an identical spot), is the small glob(s) of plastic that holds the coin in the slab.

No, it's the white spot, clearly a hit or a planchet flaw.
