For the past couple months I have been trying to decide what direction to take my collecting. Better rare coins or stacking silver. I know there are different points of view on why and how people collect coins. I feel I am sort of a split group. Some coins I will keep forever and pass them down. Some I will start selling, when the price is right. So this year I have been trying to purchase better Morgan dollars. (Most recent 1885 CC GSA) I have been trying to read up on the wonderful dollar coins, this week the book I have been reading is I have noticed some posts about GSA vs Non GSA dollars. So I thought I would try and pull out some interesting information. Some may already know this info .. some might enjoy seeing it. it is easier to post a picture then to type all the information in.

Couple more interesting charts Notice at the bottom of the last chart the "*" says Includes 13,426 Scratched/tarnished/error 1878 CC's With a MIN/BID $3.00 I have three of those. To me it seems funny some that some UNC non CC's were sold at $5.00 and these at $3.00 (The one pictured is a VAM- 11 top 100)

Another interesting chart I find numbers like this very interesting. For example of all the 1884 CC's minted 84.73% of them were in the GSA hoard.

I would be interested in what the VAM experts think about this chart. A basic list of dollars to watch out for

As long as I am on CC dollars, here are a couple that I that picked up. This one, I ran into a young man that said his grandfather had given it to him .. so he could sell and buy his mom a Christmas present. He had it in his pocket ... just like this .. no holder. It did fit into my dollar date set

John Highfill's book is still one of my favorite books on dollars, even more so than the expensive Bowers double volume set. Another book you may be interested in looking at would be Les and Sue Fox's Silver Dollar Fortune telling. They have a lot of % information regarding surviving examples, the books are often on ebay and go very cheap (under a few dollars) Heck I've got a few I'd sell for just the postage fee - if I only knew which storage locker and box they were in! Also you may enjoy Wayne Miller's book as well. He really goes after the PL and DMPL as well as natural wild monster toned coins.

Great post GR58! I really enjoyed the read. I have to agree with CTB, that is a really sweet looking '85-CC.
CTB, that VAM-6 is killer in PL!

Chasingtailbar. - very nice looking 84 CC .... I need one of those.
For me I know how hard it is to capture Morgans in pictures .... I bet that one Is killer looking in hand.
As for the 85CC I had been looking for a nice one, when I saw it ... I knew that was the one I was looking for.

That '84 is a bit weird, it's likely a DMPL, but the surfaces are slightly hazed on the obverse from presumed mishandling at some point prior to it being entombed in a GSA holder.
Got any better pics of the '85? That's a killer tough date to find PQ PL coins in the GSA holders, and yours looks PL and at least MS64 from that one pic you posted.
If it's as nice as I think it is, please let me know if you ever decide to sell it.
