I use the copper ones for some of my roman coins. A real time saver.

I prefer a sand-blasting cabinet myself. Talk about a time saver... sorry, but I would NEVER touch a coin with any of these. let the dirt / grime remain. Adds more charactor.

Hey Cordeiro :) you replied to my topic on the other forum - I eventually got a link in, or at least the item number, turned out to be a really silly fake

Call me Jim, please. Oh yes, that was the coin located in China. Sad to say, I am not shocked. If I see that the seller is located in China, I am done with that auction and look no further. Not to say that there are not honest dealers there, but once bitten, twice shy.

I didn't even realize the Romans made coin cleaning brushes.

JRC, I only use them to remove the really, really thick crud, rocks and dirt off of them. Once any of the coin is actually showing, it's in the olive oil for 6 months. I always try to keep the patina intact.

Vaslin- Oh I understand and I give you credit for your bravery. I would not even attempt to use a wire type brush on a coin. Not because I'm a purest, which I am, but I would have a fear about damaging the coin.

Once I can see any detail at all coming thru the coin, I stop with the copper brush. But I love to get the really, really crusty ones since I know that they're not pre-searched. I just hate getting 'unclean' roman coins that are 'cleaned' coins with new baked on dirt. And hunter, you're just too dang funny!

Ditto the made in China crud - I just missed it when I was distracted by such a novel design! :D

I don't imagine how can someone take care of a coin with a copper brush like that.
