Ok going through the junk foreign bin again yesterday I ran into a Georgivs V florin now knowing all florins before 1947 were silver at least %50 I snagged it up for 20 cents (I know they switched to George VI before they eliminated silver from the coins). I just can't figure out the date.

Never mind after some internet research I just realized that the 19 had been worn off and that the year is 1920, I was thinking the 20 was for 2 shillings or 20 cents didn't dawn on me that it was the date. Still score 2 silver coins in the junk foreign bin in a week first my Georgivs V half crown and now my Georgivs V florin for 20 cents a piece.

1920, that would sterling silver, also known as 925. A good price for what is about 10 grams of silver.

This is definitely a 1920 florin. 1920 was actually the year that these coins changed from .925 to .500 silver. Some 1920 threepence and sixpence coins are known in .925 silver, but no catalogue I've ever seen lists 1920 florins in sterling silver - they are shown as all being .500 silver. A nice find for 20c anyway!

Oh, right you are NumisRob. I see it now as .500

"missed by that much" to quote Maxwell Smart.
