I'll start off by saying that I don't know anything about Buffalo nickels, I probably pay the least attention to them than all classic coins.

So I got a lot of coins and two Buffalo nickels were thrown in. I was planning on just giving them away but I recently got a RedBook so I decided to try to figure out the date and then look it up. Much to my surprise these two are are both key dates. They are listed as $340 and $90 in G-4 so I assumed I could get close to $300 for the both of them.

Although, when I look up sold listings on ebay some of the 1913-s type II's are selling for $40-$50 in fairly good condition and the 1914-D can be found for under $10.

So here are some questions that I have.

Why are they going for so much less than RedBook price? Was the book just way off? Or does acid testing reduce the value drastically?
How much do you think I could get for them?
And I'm assuming mine was also completely submerged in acid, am I correct?
Do you also see the dates 1913 and 1914? I know its pretty hard to see but it's clearer in person

Thanks

Both of those have had an acid / vinegar soak so values are much much much much lower than Red Book / price guide values.

Both coins have been restored. They look like good restorations, so I would figure $50 for the 1913-s and $4 for the 1914-d. JMHO

I got no idea why the 1913 S Type II's are selling good on ebay but I think yours will get about 35 to 50.
I sold a very nice one for 80 a while ago. It's very hard to restore them nice.

What I'm trying to say is, the real price is like 15 to 25.
And yes, they won't get close to RedBook value unless you restore them very nicely.

I sold the 1914 D for about 5 dollars.
