I've been roll searching for a couple of years now and have begun to wonder when is enough enough?

When it comes to copper I have over $600 rolled and stashed.

When it comes to nickel I have multiple boxes stashed.

When it comes to dimes and halves I just look and dump but really haven't found much silver in this hole.

When it comes to quarters I'm currently looking for ATB circulating copies and haven't found much but do have a mint state set. State series I have two circulating sets and one mint. Older quarters are lacking and have found almost next to nothing in silver, but I do have a nice circulating set of post-silver.

So back to the original question, at what point would a person consider that they would have sufficient? I really feel that the only real game is either cents or nickels.

I know what you mean, I've been a roll hunter off and on since 1977-ish.

I still cannot however, wrap my mind around the whole copper hoarding thing.

That point is reached when you start to feel that your stash / hoard is tying up money that could be used for other things ....

By the way that is an impressive amount you have in copper pennies !

Depends on what you CHR for profit or relaxation. When have you fished enough? When have you killed enough deer ?

What do you CRH for, too many it keeps us out of bars and clubs and chasing skirt. Which believe me can be way more expensive than CRH. Sell it all off and start again,

Actually I search CWR to help me pass the evenings when I can't sleep. Which is more evenings than I care about. Haven't thought to much about selling them off yet, perhaps I should. I figure that if I'd weigh them I'd probably have more than 400 pounds.

One day I'll be getting rid of them, but for now they help pass the evening away.

For pennies I just have my rolls of years one per year per mintmark. Nothing but 1960 and 1960 D, not bothering with any small or large date stuff because I figured for the ones to keep from 1959~1982 a roll of each would fill a box. So whatever is in the 1960 roll is in the 1960 roll. Then as a just in case I have a mixed box of 1970s and working on a mixed box of 1960s. That will be all I keep, just because I like them. When it comes to 1982, I will be keeping just the rolls of copper that go in that box set of rolls. not got a full roll of 1959s yet so working on that as well the S mint ones.

Nickels, I just put those pre-60s into roll by decades. wheats, I keep them all.

The 1965~1967 rolls of quarters I have were made for fun and like the box of 1970s pennies can be spent when needed. Same may go for the box of rolled halves I have that are <20 million mintage.

If I wanted to keep copper for keeping copper, I have so many busted fans motors I am sure I have plenty of enamel coated copper to make any little magnetic thing to play with and probably 100 ponds of copper just from motor wires.

I figure enough is when I have what I want or need to get rid of some, like the $600 of halves I had that were all the bicentennials from 10 boxes. They had to go! Now I just need to be careful so I don't get skunked on a box when I get more and always have something to keep from them so it isn't a waste like the box of 2014 nickels I got last week.

You have reached "enough" when you no longer can afford (time, space, money) to keep them.

When it is no longer fun it is time to quit.
I have a copper and a nickel stash myself, and if someday someone wants to pay more than face for it that's great, otherwise it is still worth what it is worth.

Think of it as forced savings. You can have $600 in a box and you won't spend it, but it is there if you need it. How many people spend money if it is readily available? If that $600 were on a debit card it could disappear in no time with nothing to show for it.

Just my opinion.

Is that actually $600 in pennies or $600 in melt value?

I turned in 2 and a half 5 gallon water jugs full of copper pennies a year ago and bought silver coins. Silver is so cheap now, I figured I had time to re-hoard copper pennies if I wanted to later. Now I keep any copper penny that is wheat or is in really good shape. That is about it on hoarding pennies for me these days.

The only reason I save the copper cents, is to trade a local guy who pays in silver....he gives me double face value for copper, which I think is a great deal!! The thing for me is, I enjoy the hunt and saving old nickels, or wheats, or whatever from circulation. I'm never gonna get rich doing it, but it is a fun way to spend time with the kids...a stress reliever of sorts...
