What type of camera should I get so I can photo and post the pics to this sight. I see on Amazon a few microscope cameras but what would anyone here recommend for photographing coins just to upload to the web?

Mine seems to be acceptable -- it has a Macro option (which is what you want for coin shots) and is reasonable in price. They probably do not make them anymore, but can probably get them used on ebay for next to nothing. Canon PowerShot SX110 IS. Be sure you get the "IS" version. Hope this helps.

I have just bought myself a Nikon D3200 DSLR camera and matched it to a Tamron Macro lens But I was using a point and shoot Fujifilm camera before and was getting quite reasonable results with it.
It depends on what you want to achieve as to what you buy.
Rest in Peace

I have found that lighting is MUCH more important than spending big bucks for equipment just to image a coin. I have gotten great results from both my 300mm zoom Olympus lens on a 4-5 ft. tripod and my Canon pocket S95 on a small stand.

Lighting and zero movement....

I'm not saying these are perfect pics but good enough for posting.

This from my point and shoot Canon (hand held)

Hello,

Only if you possess or will acquire an iPhone 4S or later try checking out this thread:

https://goccf.com/t/160092

I used to brag about a $ 30 USB camera on a CCF thread that gained a lot of attention but this low end camera could never produce the required detail I wanted especially on high luster, reflective-type coins.

Therefore, I have put my efforts into learning more about the intricacies of something that I already owned that required very little outlay of additional cash.

Remember, just as was previously stated in this thread by Foxwoodsman lighting IS the overall dominant factor in producing acceptable coin photos for subsequent uploading to sites like ebay etc.

Good luck,
mdpmedia
