For my circulated typeset as of February 11, 1861, I have been looking for an AU55 or better Indian Head cent... There are printed reports from Philadelphia that "the new cents are circulating" from the end of January. But any such coin would have almost no wear. It had become my white whale, I looked everywhere, including all the usual suspects (Rick Snow, Charmy, etc.) plus ebay. At the ANA2014 show, I have found her. and PS: Over ATS, I was told "Just don't ever send it back to PCGS as they may change the grade to MS63" That's not going to happen. Perfectly happy with AU55. -----Burton 50+ year / Life / Emeritus ANA member (joined 12/1/1973) Life member: Numismatics International, CONECA Member: TNA, FtWCC, NETCC, EveryCountry (online) coin club Owned by three cats and a wife of 40+ years (joined 1983) Author: 3rd Edition of the Sample Slabs book, https://www.sampleslabs.info/

Metal doesn't flow as well on the woodies and makes it difficult to grade. This coin looks like an MS example to me. nlp

Severely under-graded, but glad you found it!

Really nice pick up. I'm going with PCGS on this one and saying that's a spot on grade. Just a quick quote from one of my favorite books "To the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee."

Nice! tough to see the rub on it, but I'll take PCGS's word for it that it's there.

I see some wear on the headband/ribbon, so I would probably agree with PCGS.

I also think that coin is a beauty and under graded! Possibly a low end mint state coin. Though to be honest grading from static photos makes any slight wear spots very tough to pick out unless the lighting is just right. No matter it's a worthy coin you've got there!

The wear is there, I did check with a loupe, just bare kisses on the upper ribbon for example. But I'm still pumped, especially by all the nice comments here.
BTW, I purchased her from Angel Dee's and as everyone says, they're just good peeps.

just curious as to the date you selected...does this have to do with Lincoln heading to D.C. for inauguration?
