I started a Washington collection a couple weeks ago and just took care of one of the key dates for zero dollars out of pocket. Let me explain.

My girlfriend, bless her, works at the local pool during the summer. One day, she found a ring at the bottom of the pool. It sat in the lost and found for two months, then became hers. She didn't know much about it other than that it said Pt900 on the inside. She knew I love precious metals, so she gave it to me.

It turned out to weigh 3.75 grams, and was obviously 90 percent platinum.

My coin dealer offered me $75 for it and I declined. My uncle collects rings of that kind, and offered me $90. I accepted. Then at his home, I was going through some of his coins to see if he had anything I needed, and I came across a 1932-S quarter. He said he'd take a swap of the quarter (marked $155) for the ring. And just like that, I have a nice centerpiece to my small but growing collection!

What do you guys think?

(P.S. ... Of course I bought her a nice dinner as well )

Quarter is cleaned but nice details. I picked my '32S from junk silver so I know how awesome it feels to fill a key date hole on the cheap.

Congrats!

Very nice, but I don't see it as cleaned. What makes you say that? I'm just learning. Are all old quarters dirty?

Coins that are cleaned lose luster and appear foggy as they were etched with the cleaning substance. Doesn't mean it was "cleaned", could have just been dropped into a bucket of pickles and has vinegar affects to it.

Most people likely wouldn't care as if you find something so rare, you are just happy to have it. something there is only 400,000 or so of. that some have probably be sold for melt and ....melted this is a legible and pretty coin!

IMO it doesn't look cleaned to me either, and with that much circulation wear on it I wouldn't expect any luster.

Congratulations. Nice quarter for your set. Now go find the 32-D and a Dansco 1932 - 1998 Washington quarter album and start filling it up.

Doesn't look cleaned to me, but I do notice that the area around the mintmark is lighter than the rest of the coin. A closeup of the mintmark would help. There are plenty of counterfeits out there with added mintmarks.

She seems like a keeper, and so does the coin. Great pickup. I saw an offer for both the D and S for 260, both in VF grade. Almost thought about it

Looks cleaned to me, but probably doesn't affect the value too much.
