I realize this is probably the most common question on this forum, but I am so happy to have found it so I might get help from those of you that are experts, collectors or simply fascinated with numismatics!

This is a piece that was given to me in Mexico about 40 years ago and it was mentioned that it had been found in an abandoned Carmelite Convent along with others. I have always been curious to find out what it is and now with internet I have searched to no avail. Typically, I'll put it away and forget about it until I have to open the drawer again where I've kept it.

I am in hope that someone might have an idea of what this is, or where I could begin to look for information, I thank you in advance for your help!

Could be a Mexican communion or marriage token.Yes depending on the subject matter and the number made and the years in use There are tokens that have little to none info other than what is stamped on them.

If tokens are privately/hand-made, it is absolutely possible that the maker could pass away and leave no record of when/where/why the token was made. Yours certainly seems to be hammered with rather crude tools, and given that it's been 40 years at least since this was made, I wouldn't hold my breath for a 100% certain ID.

What strikes me as odd is the "ram's head" on the reverse--doesn't seem like something I'd expect on a Catholic token/medallion.

The design is vaguely reminiscent of a bronze of Taxila that I have seen.
