Most of my buyers are decent people. But if you have been in this business long enough you know you will be ripped off by a small percentage of buyers. Unfortunately a higher percentage of those items ripped off will be higher end merchandise. I mean who is really going to defraud you for a $5 penny?
I had a case not too long ago where I sold a raw/gem 1953 S Franklin with full bell lines. A pretty pricey coin. The buyer paid for it on a Friday at 11 PM and opened a 'Where is my item" case on Saturday.
ebay did shut that down and pointed out that Monday was the earliest day they expected me to ship on. And right on schedule the buyer opened a case on Monday.
ebay shot that one down as well; pointing out that tracking said it was still in route.
Sure enough on the day it said it got there, the buyer opened a case and
ebay decided in their favor and refunded all their money back. With all those flags
ebay still sided with the buyer.
Now the scammers have an additional tool in their belt. Just claim it is not as described and
ebay will just give it to them for free.
