SNAD is the all encompassing term that is used when a Buyer wants to return something to a Seller that has a "no returns" policy. If a Seller failed to mention a bag mark at the 9 o'clock position in front of Miss Liberty's face on a Morgan dollar that can be construed as an omission and hence the SNAD card is played by the Buyer. In fact, the bag mark might not be obnoxious but the buyer just didn't like the coin after he saw it and needed justification for the return.

If a Seller has a "no returns" policy that is trumped by the SNAD ebay return policy. With the new ebay policy the Buyer can go in and print a return label (at the Sellers expense of course!) and send it back without even leaving their home. It's called "Hassle Free Returns" (HFR) and it means exactly what it says ---- especially the "FREE" part!

Well, if I sold at item on ebay, and the buyer made a claim and kept the money and the item, I would just sue them.

The seller must pay return shipping if the item is faulty and/or not as described. SNAD & "faulty" is what the buyer & ebay agree it is, which can be a long way from reality. What buyer in their right mind is going to say they changed their mind & pay return shipping when they can claim one of the two? ebay has decided that buyers who can return at will do more shopping. That's fine for sellers that do enough volume of commodity type items to absorb the 1-5% of loss from "bad" buyers. It's an absolute killer for the casual seller and/or the person like me that sells a low volume of vintage/collectible items annually.

Of course those evil sellers that send you something completely different than listed will be responsible for return shipping. Perhaps they will think twice?

An honest one will claim they just didn't want it. Fortunately most people are honest, but unfortunately there are a few bad eggs that will lie instead of pay return shipping if they decide they don't want the item. If they are that pathetic they have to lie to you and ebay to get free return shipping so be it. ebay does have to protect their own interests and their stakeholders from people that will just send anything instead of what was listed. Some sellers will send something completely different than listed and use the cost of shipping the order back as a deterrent for returns.

That's one way to look at it. You could also say that ebay does have to protect their own interests and their stakeholders from people that will do anything to scam an honest seller. I can guarantee there are the same percentage of bad buyers as there are bad sellers.....& ebay has decided to tip the scale entirely in favor of the buyer.

This is why Amazon is now getting into selling Coins on their site. They know how unhappy everybody is with ebay.

Of course you know that in most businesses, the customer has to come first or the business is likely to fail. For years, ebay was more focused on the seller since they paid the fees. Apparently that didn't work well as many moved on to other sites buying from a retailer or switching to Amazon. I personally don't understand how someone can list one thing, send something completely different, and expect the buyer to be penalized by paying return shipping.

Interesting. I'd like to see any concrete evidence you care to present that shows ebay has been losing business. I was under the impression that they have shown growth in sales/customers since they started as evidenced by their annual financial records.

In my mind the percentage of bad buyers is roughly equal to the percentage of bad sellers. Policies should be in place to protect both buyers & sellers. Tipping the balance too far in either direction brings out the dirtbags on either side who game the system. IMO the latest policies have shifted the balance too far in the buyers direction.
