Hello all,
I recently purchased this 1868 8 reales as part of a bulk lot at auction. It is the correct weight and I think it is genuine but this isn't my field of speciality as I usually go for British coins.. Does anyone have an opinion on the matter? Any tell tale signs to look for? Thanks all.

I don't think the photos have uploaded properly so I have put them on a photobucket (not very good at this)

Lots of caps & rays counterfeited.
Could you photograph and upload the edge?
I have read weight is fine. Sounds and smells like silver?

Modern "replicas" are usually very obvious. Contemporary counterfeits are almost always off as far as weight goes. I don't see anything that screams "fake" from your photos. Culiacan mint if you didn't know, this issue not a rarity in the series, pretty nice condition, high VF to low XF, I'd judge. Probably genuine, but you could always do a specific gravity test just to be absolutely sure.

I have uploaded a picture of the edge to the same link as below. Like I said, I think its real I just don't know of any tell-tale signs to look for.
