NEWBIES Do NOT under estimate "what you do not understand"

About my 4th bag of $1,000 Ikes, I got more than one Ike that looked (about) 100% the same as this Morgan.

It came in this bag.

From memory there were 376 Bicentennial 1976 (D) & (P) mostly Type one. All were in different stages of toning, and condition.

On the Monster Toning site I found this Morgan, called "Textile Toned Mauve Freckles."

When I looked at my Ikes, I was thinking my Ikes looked like a broad cloth pattern. The Reverse had the FRECKLES, and the Obverse was Toned.

I was so gaw gaw with the "better coins" in the bag, I didn't pay any attention to the Ikes in question.

Now I can not find them.

Coins that are on sale at Monster Toning have asking prices well into the 4 figure range.

My impression is, if you wish to buy anything from these sellers, first you fill your pockets, and come with your hat in hand.

My personal feelings about the value of these RAW lost friends, may have been about 1% of the value of the Morgans in similar condition.

In conclusion, if your coin looks different, don't dump it until you are 100% sure.

EDIT 7:48 AM

"Morgans stored in canvas bags that were super-close or touching the actual bag toned with a matching pattern of the textile on the bag. This pattern is extremely desirable and exceptionally heavy textile is exceedingly rare."

After more study on the site, I do understand My coins were in a heavy canvas bag.

Will continue to look for my lost treasures.

Jbuck and Darth

I was looking in several tubes of PEGGERS, and found a very poor single of said coin.

I guess I was saving it because the Obverse is a good PEG. I guess it got in the Peg tube my mistake. (Didn't look at REVERSE)

The reverse turns out to be gross by way of black spots, but it does show the canvas cloth marking, over about 35% of reverse. IMO the Obverse will rate at MS63 or better. The coin has no value.

Please do not ask for a PIC. Need time to search more, and I am helping a CCF friend gathering a few coins for him.

Thank you for your understanding

BTW, from memory there was about 6-10 of them.

-- Tough CCF crowd today --

Are you talking about the black scared coin? It is taking a 24 hour Acetone bath. Figure I can't hurt the poor thing.

Or the others I have lost.

this is all new to me, but are you saying you found some ikes toned from being in a canvas bag? Did they have a pattern like that morgan you posted? Did they have color? Or am I way off.

I got them in a 1,000 FED RES BANK bag.

Before they were in the FRB bag, I strong believe they were in a CANVAS bag

A very few had the patten shown on the Morgan.

It was an odd bag there was 367 (from MEMORY) 1976 (D) type 1 and type 2. A few 1976 (P)

About all had some toning. The vast majority was heavy into toning. And a high MS in general

This is the bag

Clad Ike dollars with that kind of toning would probably not be market acceptable. No big loss.

Respectively,

What kind of toning?

Speaking from the prospective of a decades long MERCHANT, if I bought it, I had to sell it. 90% of it I sold at a good, or very larger profit. Small loss on the last 10%.

At the end of my little store front clothing store we were moving 33,000 to 35,000 garments per year.

It was weird what sold at a high price. And weird what went last. Best not to judge. Just hang it on a hanger and let the customer decide.

In the case of Ikes, I can not loose a single cent.

From memory I did sell on ebay (about) 6-7 coins.

From memory I guess 3-4 were toned.

From memory I made about 10-11 times my investment in profit on those few coins.

IMHO there is a limited market for my coins.

I'm just saying, they're not $50 coins or anything, maybe worth 5 bucks to somebody. It's not a big loss if you didn't keep them.

Those dots on the bearded lady on the Morgan look like what happens when a coin is left too long in a jewelry cleaning machine.

There's an adage in there somewhere... the more you know, the more you realize there is to know. Or something like that. We always are learning in this hobby!

The only down side is the more you want to learn-know.

Time
Time
Time.

One other nice point. Your coins are good faithful friends. They never lie, never betray you, & when you get 'em at face, you can spend them without a loss.

I was including myself as the first in line newbie.

My total time in the hobby is less than 1,000 hours.

And the only coin I am familiar is the MIGHTY IKEs.

The real hero(s) here on CCF is the MODs and STAFF

They give all for the rest of us.
