Just finished going through a box of pennies and filling them into a Harris folder and found some strange happenings.

As expected pennies from 1985 were generally in almost uncirculated shape. Sometimes I had to upgrade a coin 2 or 3 times to get to the respectable one. However there were 1 or 2 coins later than that the still need to be updated to better selections. All told there are probably 20 coins that are in need of updating but since this is a circulated set I don't think that that is a big distraction.

There were 5 coins that I didn't come across in the box.

2002d, four from the 2009 series. I probably have suitable coins in another collection of mine. So that is not a big deal.

However I was surprised to see no 2002d in the entire box.

Now I will have to work on the previous folder (1959 - 1974). So I'm dedicating my next box of pennies to fill that folder.

The frustrating thing about the Harris folders is the strength that you need to exert in pushing the pennies into their respective slot.

All Folders have that problem. Mostly with newer coins though. Once a coin gets a bit of wear they fall right into those slots. And remember that all that pushing on a coin if done with fingers or thumb will leave a print on the coin. Eventually that print will be there forever.

Suggestion maybe, take a coin and flatten the "ridge" of the hole. Push it back sort of, it goes in smoothly that way for me.
