First off I would like to thank (Rastatodd) Todd
for helping me out with a purchase that I made of 7 ea.
10 gram gold pamp suisse bars. He sent me a note explaining
that these bars may be fakes. He was correct as they turned out to be
just that. I had them listed at the for sale forum and am so glad that no one bought them. I have owned many pamp bars over the years (all legit ones) and I am embarrassed to even admit that I was taken on these. I have since removed the for sale listing naturally as I did return the bars to the buyer for a refund. Well, most of the refund anyway. I'll take care of the balance owed me at another time. :)
We met (the seller and myself) today and cracked one of the 7 open. Weighed and tested the bar. He was not happy either. Like I care.
9.4 grams, 14 K (max.) gold plate over copper/alloy. The bars looked fine but it was the packaging that did the trick as Todd pointed out.
Well, I guess never too old to learn. At least I only lost out on a few dollars and not the whole price for all 7 bars. I'm sure that a few of you other CCFer's noticed the flaws on these bars when I had them up for sale. When I bought them I was in a hurry so did not pay much attention to them. I had bought and sold with this person a few times in the past with no problems. Maybe he honestly did not know either about them being fakes. ?
Thank's again Todd.

Just a note. Even the Cert. #'s on the bars were etched just
like a legit bar. Not punched or fishy looking. Does not show well in the scan but these bars in hand are dead ringers.

At least the seller stated exactly what they were.
Wonder why anyone would even purchase these for that price
unless they like expensive paper weights :)

And then add to that my last ebay buy a few days ago
of 10 phony APMEX 1 oz. silver bars. Now the forgers are even
sealing up the APMEX bars the same way as APMEX does. No more ebay
gold or silver for me unless sold directly from the bullion co.
Maybe no more ebay period. They don't seem to care one bit at all
about all the fakes that they list. Too bad about all the top line
bars as now all of them will have to be cut open to check the bars.
Unopened ones bring a slight premium over opened ones.

Open EVERYTHING up.. trust no packaging... trust science.. test each piece you ever buy...

Should be glad this guy returned your call.. and met you and took those fakes back! ... The action I believe makes me think the seller didn't know either..

This is why I will probably never buy anything off ebay... Sad cause there are honest people trying to make money and you got crooks out there scamming people...
