So I sold a coin Aug 3, shipped the 5th. Sent with tracking from Canada to the States. According to the tracking number it was delivered on the 13th. Today I received a message from the buyer that the package was not received. I told them thanks and that I'd follow it up. Where do I go from here? If it was never delivered I'd hit up the post office but I can see it was delivered so I don't know if they'd be any help. Any advice?

Maybe suggest they contact the post office and ask if the mail carrier remembers where it was left? Maybe the mail carrier left it on the porch or something and not in the mailbox.

Check to see if they have a signature. If not, then you need to contact the postmaster who will discuss the matter with the postal worker.

I'm going to drop by my local post office to see what they say. I'll also ask the buyer to have another look and to contact their local office to see where it may have been left.

Shipping with signature confirmation might be a good idea in the future. Not sure how expensive it is in Canada, though.

I always do signature within Canada (for extra money) but most of the shipping options for the US (including the ones recommended by ebay) do not even have the option. Just have tracking and delivery confirmation.
Shipping anything up here is a rip off.

Atscaper, I am not sure how close you live to the border, but I used to cross the border and ship from a border town. saves me money and hassle, not to mention gets things shipped faster.

Hopefully it was an inexpensive item. IMO, if it was "delivered" you are covered on your end. See how it plays out for a day or two. If the item was only worth a few bucks, you might just refund the buyer and be done with it. If it had some value, I wouldn't be too quick to give any money back. Seems like it should be the POs responsibility to make sure it's delivered when they say it's "delivered."

Not to make you feel worse but I just had a shipment from JMBullion say delivered but it was not at my house. The next day a woman a couple of blocks away brought it to my house because the mailman left it at 552 instead of 522. Lucky for me she was an honest person.

USPS stuck my unc clad Kennedy's in my neighbor's box. Since the web showed 'delivered' we checked both boxes.

upon google mapping the address I mailed it to, it's a freight forwarding service. I'm probably jumping the gun here but I'm gonna guess it was delivered and they lost it. So there goes the checking of the neighbors mail idea. I'm gonna assume this will only complicate the matter.

Just got off the phone with ebay and was told that since I can provide tracking to show delivered that I'm in the clear as I've done my part. Still trying to provide good service but not going to eat the cost of a $100 coin.

Glad to hear it. Even with tracking, it's a bit scary to send a coin off in the mail!

Send a hard copy of the tracking information to the buyer.
