I listed this Morgan on The Bay last night and starting looking a bit closer at the photos. It is obviously a 1D with the hallmark wing gouges, but there is an additional gouge in the upper olive leaves (Eagle's left wing vicinity) that does not appear in the examples shown in VAMWorld. Under magnification it does not appear to be PMD. I'll post a link to it as the photos are reasonable. Thoughts? Observations? Is this VAM really a R6? PG

I would not consider the 1D "super rare" as the ebay ad states. The "R" ratings are a best guess at rarity by Leroy when he assigns the variety and don't always provide the true rarity; especially as more eyes start finding the variety once it is discovered.

Man, that divot looks like a die chip to me.

It IS a die chip Dave. That's why I initiated the thread. No other examples of the 1D (that I've found) have this chip. I removed it from ebay for further study. All opinions are most certainly welcome - SuperDave, TwoHawks, et al?.... PG

My gut reaction is die polishing having removed some of that leaf from the die. Must have been a localized job.

I'm still leaning towards a die chip SD. That second tier leaf is much thinner than the ones above it in all Morgans. It is normal size taking away the chip. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Could we have a "1E"? PG

Or a VAM24C? VAM1D was eliminated and became VAM24B? I swear I looked at the 1D listing on 8/27 and it was still active. Anyways, sure would nice to se the word "Discovery" in front of your name on a wiki page, right PG?

Nice thought Dave... Immortality thanks to a long ago New Orleans Ooops! BTW I still see the 1D and no 24B when I bring up the VamWorld page. Possibly a caching issue on my part? PG

Never mind, I was on the Philly mint tab. Only a sip or two off my coffee at that point I guess.
