Hello everyone,
Can anyone give me some feed backs on using gloves to handle UnCirculated Coins? Have anyone had any experiences in using latex gloves to handle uncirculated coins (mint-wrapped $1 roll coin)? What are the differences (different effects) between using cotton gloves and latex gloves to handle uncirculated coins.
The reasons for my question are: It's hard for me to find a coin shop/coin dealer in San Leandro (SF Bay Area) to buy the cotton gloves. I can not find cotton gloves at any other stores (Walmarts, Sport Authority....). I have a whole bunch of latex gloves bought from Costco.
Anyone know where to buy cotton gloves, beside coin shop or online?
Lastly, I just moved to San Leandro, 15 miles south of Oakland, I would like to know some coin collectors in the area that's willing to show me around or share with me their experiences of the area.
Thank you all.

I bought my cotton gloves at Walmart. You could try Walgreens, Target or even Home Depot but their gloves are thicker "heavy duty."

That's a good question, I can't find any either. I've been using a microfiber towel, small piece of thin cardboard and piece of paper to manipulate coins....it's a PAIN.

I bought mine from a place called "Amos Advantage" online. I believe they are affiliated with Coin World newspaper and Coin Values. They sell the cotton gloves by the dozen, and they're pretty cheap, I'd say. I don't have the link, but google Amos Advantage and you'd get it. But I'd also like to know whether it's wrong to use latex. It's so much easier to use than cotton.

I don't know about in the US, but here in Australia, cotton gloves are usually available from most Chemists (Pharmacies) or maybe a Diabetic Association. Another more likely source might be a Medical Appliance Supplier as many people use these gloves to don the thick surgical stockings used in Post Operative situation or for Varicose Veins. Ladies also use cotton gloves to prevent their long finger-nails from ripping holes in their normal stockings.

I use cotton gloves.
They are soft yet protective. You could get cotton gloves from a large Hypermarket. TheKid!

Hmm. I would be afraid that the latex gloves might leave a print on the coin, where cotton does not. Latex clings, it doesn't slide. That might be an issue, but I've never tried latex with coins before. Try them on a test coin before you get them next to your best shinies.

I tested both out going through alot of new coins and in the end you sweat in either glove if you wear them for long periods of time. I found it's best to use both at the same time especially if you are looking at alot of coins or will be wearing them for 15 minutes or more at a time. Wear the latex glove under the cotton glove. The latex one stops sweat getting through to the coins and the cotton glove stops the latex gloves from making contact with the coins if you are worried about that. I've never had a problem using this method. Cotton gloves are easy to find here and I usually get mine from Myers in the womens clothing area.

I use them hospital latex glove (powder free) they work great. some will say that they are bad for coins but I only hold the coin for a sec to get it to the flip. Thad paper is very abrasive and will always leave a micro scratch on your coin stop using it and get yourself a box of latex gloves from either Costco Sam's or Walgreen's but never touch your coins with paper.
