If someone else came up with a venue just as popular as ebay, I'd dump ebay like lightning. Ain't gonna happen though.

As far as people educating and researching before throwing big money down, I don't feel sorry for them. I would not go out and buy a $5,000 diamond without educating myself first. Just dumb people in my opinion.

I totally agree with your second sentence! No pity from me either. And, I personally don't understand why people waste their time reporting fraud because it IS NOT going to stop. The thing is, there are some very good dealers on ebay, very well known people. But a lot of people think that there going to find THE SUPER DEAL and they are just not going to find the SUPER DEAL. You pay for what you get!...I truly think that in a few years coin buyers will be buying from a new website that will specifically cater to numismatic items. ebay really isn't the place to buy coins, there are many other ways to find what you want. If you want generic or cheap coins then maybe it's OK but buying sight unseen is always a risk especially if it's not specifically a Numismatic venue.

Thanks for sharing this. It will help me to avoid fakes. I recently got a fake Morgan....but the magnet found it for me, otherwise it would be in my album...yikes!

I know many here would prefer to buy coins raw, and as we know PCGS and NGC make the occasional blunder and miss a fake, but this would be a good time to mention that if you stick to coins holdered by PCGS and NGC you're going to limit your chances of getting scammed by a large margin. This is especially true if you buy your coins on ebay.

Tbone ... Generally, what you say is true. However, there are fake PCGS slabs containing fake coins already in the marketplace. One company was selling fake 1909-S VDB's in the fake PCGS slabs, marked MS-64 for $165.00, as I recall seeing.
