If this guy is putting out fakes, it makes you wonder if he's brand new at it. Either that, or he's never been caught or noticed. Good call on the altered dates! Too bad there are people like that out there.

Agreed--looking at the dates should tip off buyers, and that obviously fake toning too. What's a shame is these will get 'buried' in collections and come to market again someday.

He's sold half a dozen "1909-S IHCs" in the last three weeks, interesting how each buyer paid real money for such an obvious cast coin without checking the other coins he's sold. All of the "1909S IHCs" have a parallel indentation under the indian's eye which was most likely on the coin he cast from. As fakes they are so poorly made with uneven indistinct details such as the denticles, the legend and a general roughness not even seen on worn real coins, the sad part are the six or so buyers that have been truly snookered by this seller. As for the scarce date 1860's I don't know where he cobbled those dates from, there are no IHCs that have dates that look like that if the graininess wasn't already a dead giveaway. As a buyer you have to know what you're buying on e-Bay, but none of his cents are even remotely convincing as real IHCs.

Quote: All of the "1909S IHCs" have a parallel indentation under the indian's eye which was most likely on the coin he cast from. Very good eye--the toning was immediately suspect as were the dates and mint marks. Next to the 1877, this is the most faked IHC--I cannot understand why people throw money at these, uncertified. What they probably need is a club or collector's community like CCF where they can get good advice.

I found the exact 1909-S fakes he's buying from Alibabba, 1.53 apiece.

Welcome to the CCF, Mike! Good catch! I've reported the two that this seller now has up.
It seems that the buyers don't even bother to get their purchases checked-out by a good numismatist when received. Perhaps, they're flipping them for XF bid? More than likely, these fakes will be buried in a collection for years before they surface, again. Then, some heir will argue that, "This 1909-S Indian can't be fake. It belonged to my grandfather!"

Did you read some of the comments left by some of the buyers. This one is a killer "Great Seller! Perfect Transaction!! THANK YOU!! Hope to have Many More! Hope to have many more..More what fakes.
Some people need to educate and research coins worth that much before tempting to purchase them.

hmm I think a seller selling half a dozen 1909s IHC in one week is a red flag in and of itself.

also, just wanted to add, getting really sick of the ebay coin scammers. I was a victim to the fake coins on ebay when I first started, I ended up winning a fake 1909 S VDB. think I posted about this a while ago but I cant find the original thread..

Quote: a seller selling half a dozen 1909s IHC in one week is a red flag in and of itself. Yeah--how many legit dealers out there have that kind of volume of raw key date IHCs?

He must have pulled them a bit ago. I wrote him a note.
Dear caseymccarney,
The coins you're selling are Chinese fakes. You're gonna get caught sooner or later and you'll have a price to pay.

Obvious counterfeits to us ... alas it's the not quite so obvious to the inexperienced collectors who are getting burned. Alas ebay has apparently eliminated their coin advisory committee ... so it is truly the wild, wild West relative to buyer beware on raw coin purchases. David

It's ebay, what do you expect? ebay isn't a coin specialist company. Things will change and there will be a new coin selling/buying venue, may take a few years but it will happen. For coin selling/buying, ebay is so yesterday.
