I apologize for the horrible photos, but I took them from an auction and can't do any better. I saw this Standing Liberty quarter in an auction, now ended, and am wondering if there is any chance it was a 1916? Not being sure I didn't bid.

The wall lines on Liberty's left look very worn and the rivets on the shield also appear to be very weak, but the photos were so bad I can't hazard a guess. It's 99.99% a worn 1917, but you only learn by asking.

Opinions are welcome.

Would need better photos of the obverse but based on the strength of the walls I would say 1917 since the head and shield rivets are too distorted to tell.

I agree with jeckel, the wall panel on the left hand wall is too strong to be a 16.

Don't know what it was but sure looks like it's been used a lot.

it is a tough call from those pics, but the darkness on the top part of the shield would indicate deeper reeding...which points to a 17

Paul, this might help when searching for a 1916 SLQ.

I printed off the diagnostic sheet of an authentic 1916 a couple of weeks ago and keep a copy by my computer now. It's certainly a helpful guide.
