I was at my local Kroger last week and have this habit of reaching into the coin return to see if any old coins were rejected. It's actually quite hilarious because my girlfriend always leaves me in the dust because she thinks its embaressing! ...Anyways, as I passed I saw a few in the return chamber. I reached in and pulled out BOTH OF MY NEW SILVER 1964 Dimes Not bad!

My fiancée has gotten quite used to my checking Coinstar returns (as well as my change back from any cashier). I scored a 1964 dime at one once, and another time a UK 5 pence coin. I've also found states quarters and Lincoln cents; coins that should have been accepted.

YEP, you got. I've taught my 6 year old son well. Yesterday with his mother in Walmart, he pulled out a handful of change from the Coinstar reject tray. A buck or so of mostly Canadian, but there was a 1953S Roosevelt dime

My wife won't let me in the store with her if I did that so to keep the peace I don't do it. I don't use em anyway so no reason to bother.

Lots of coin stars are tooled to reject silvers due to their extra weight. A member on another forum worked either for coinstar or at a store where he could sneak in behind customers as they dumped their change. His finds were nothing short of staggering- hundreds of silvers, buckets worth of foreigns from modern to early 19th century, and even a few gold Krugerrands.
Whether or not the wife likes it, I check every coinstar I see!

Your lucky. By me coin counting type machines are almost non existant. Even in most banks, no counting machines anymore.

Nice finds! I've dumped thousands of dollars in coins through counters in the past, haven't found more than a zincoln or two in the reject bin...so much for my efforts -

Funny I feel embarrassed as well but back a few years ago in the 'day of the pay phone' we always checked!

I'm "a little" embarrassed, but I'm more concerned that people will see me doing it, and they in turn will start doing it, and decrease my odds.

No shame in that at all. My wife calls me a nerd and makes fun of me for doimg it, I just tell her: "when I finally cash in all my silver and buy a new boat, you dont get to sit on it unless your cleaning it!" Maybe I will name the boat COINSTAR just as an added jab.....
