I'm looking at the Dansco 7061 and the Whitman 9159. It's my understanding that the Dansco starts with the Washington in 1982 and goes to 2011 and has 32 named ports. This is volume 1.
The Whitman 9159 has 5 pages and 80 ports and I can't find much more information than that on it. Are the first 32 spots named or labeled in this album? It just happens to have 48 "extra ports"?
At this point, I'm just considering doing the half dollars so my question is...Which album is the album of choice? Thanks for any info or suggestions.

I think your confusion is easy to clear up, it's being caused by comparing albums made for two different series of coins.
The Dansco 7061 album holds modern US commemorative half dollars which start with the 1982 George Washington half dollar. There have been 20 design types issued so far (40 total coins if you count proof and uncirculated versions of each).
The Whitman album you refer to is designed to hold half dollars from the "classic" era of US commemorative coinage: 1892 - 1954. There are 48 different classic half dollar designs with 142 possible coins in a complete date/mint mark set. This album does not hold the modern issues.
I don't think Whitman makes an album that competes with the Dansco 7061.
Hope that helps!

Yes it does help and I really appreciate it. I can't for the life of me figure out why Whitman is so stingy with their information and expects to sell products. They also have a volume II but I couldn't find any information about that one either. I do have a couple of blank half dollar pages that I'll use for my moderns for now and if I get enough to warrant an album I'll pick up the 7061. Thank You Commems for the information.

Quote: They also have a volume II but I couldn't find any information about that one either. Both volumes are for the classic era coins. To house the entire classic commemorative half dollar set you would need to purchase Volumes 1 & 2 from Whitman.

So is that because the Whitman albums have both the dollar and half dollar ports?

Quote: So is that because the Whitman albums have both the dollar and half dollar ports? No, it's because the Whitman albums are for the classic series of US commemorative half dollars (1892-1954) not the modern series.

OK, Gotcha...if I would have read your posts more carefully and let them sink in I would have realized that you answered that...sorry. Thanks for your patience and information, I know enough now to at least make a plan. I see the albums currently on "the auction site" end with the 2001 Capitol Center port on page one. Maybe the trick is going to find a current, up to date printing of the 7061 and not a NOS version. Thanks again, Dave

Yes, will do. I have my list made and 21 halves counting the 2015 US Marshall's Service sounds like my kind of project. I see that some (maybe all?) have multiple versions/mm available. I think one example of each will do fine for me.

Just wanted to add a little bit to this information about the Dansco albums. The 7061 is a two page album with ports for a single example of the 1982 to present Modern Commemoratives. The 7063 is a three page album with ports for both proof & uncirculated examples that are available of each coin as mentioned above by commems. Both of these albums are for half dollars only.

Nothing of substance for me to add other than my personal appreciation for Commems taking the time to share the knowledge needed to support this member. Well done indeed. David
