What is the deal with returning coin rolls to the bank (step by step process on what to do with the non keepers)? I have never really gotten a box full of rolls before, I'll only buy a roll every now and then and just keep it. But sometime soon, I think I'd like to get a $100 box of nickels.

Ideally it would be in your best interests to take them to a different bank from the one you got the box of nickels from..... for abvious reasons. Banks with free coin counting machines are the best.

My choice coin at the moment is the Nickel. I have looked through 58 boxes within a 3 months span I usually take in 200 worth at one time to dump. I have not had any flack really.

I know some banks charge a fee for cashing in the coins.

I take anywhere from four to six rolls back to *another* branch of bank I got them at, and do not have problems. As that my bank has several branches, this allows me to rotate the dumping sites.

I wouldn't bother. Just use the nickels rerolled as spending money here or there. One roll at a time shouldn't be a problem for most registers. Some places will be snobby about it while others will gladly accept them so they don't have to get more out of wherever they keep rolls when they get low.

So can I just re roll the nickels I'm not keeping and give back the full rolls to another bank? I don't have any banks near me that have a free coin counting machine.

I will agree with Shadz, if it's only a few rolls at a time, just spend 'em!

I am glad that I don't have to re-roll. Like I said before I take back 2 boxes of nickels at one time and I have had not problems. Spending them will take forever and at that point it will not be worth it.

I use a bank that provides coin counters/rollers (depending on the branch) for free if you are a customer. Its quite handy when dumping $50-75+ of pennies or $1000+ of halves. Plus it is 25+ miles from my pick up bank which is nice, not a huge chance of searching through already searched coins IMO. I could be wrong because I don't mark my rolls.

I'm a weird one in this department. I reroll the pennies I search in the plastic wrap rolls, as that let's me trade them for fresh rolls from the safe at work. (Gas station)

I guess I just have to go out and look around then. My bank is Capitol One, doing some research, it looks like back in June they pulled the coin counters . I think I'll try to find a bank where I can dump my non keepers and they would not care, there are LOTS of banks in my area. Thanks for the replies everyone. Mark
