I have always wondered if it was better to stop searching a box of coins when returns appeared to be disappointing or whether to continue plodding through with towards a very lackluster result.

Currently I am searching a roll of pennies and am only getting 25 - 29 copper coins per every 4 rolls. So far I've searched 20 rolls with rather dismal returns.

I'm starting to feel that it would be more productive to sit and watch TV than to continue towards a low return.

So the question is, at what point do you quit flogging a dead horse and move on. I am almost positive that I have someone's dump box

Any opinions?

I personally will keep continuing until the last roll. Who knows if they missed anything or rolled the wrong coin? Or if one of the rolls was switched and it's not part of the dump? I once got a box of pennies that were all newer pennies, until I opened the last roll (I actually had trouble opening this roll so I saved it for last) and there were two wheats!
By the way, I watch Britcoms (mostly just replayed Python episodes) while roll hunting. I usually can't hold my attention long enough to do one thing.

Half a box and ready to give up?

I've been on 20 and then 14 and then 28 box straight skunk streaks.

If you are ready to throw it in after half a box you are in the wrong sport.

I only got 1 box that was all new 2014 cents. They were in the clear plastic rollers so I didn't open any of them so my lowest count would be 0.

But if paper rolls, you have to open them all in case there is the elusive IHC or FEC hidden in a roll you didn't check.

I'very had boxes cough up some pretty significant keepers in the last 1-2 rolls... unless your box is clearly 100% new coins I would power through to the end.

I say learn how to cherry pick double dies and repunched mintmarks. You may be throwing away more than just a few coppers. Pick up a CherryPickers Guide and check it out. If this is not your thing, personally I would still pick all the copper.

odds are the same that you'll find a good coin in the first roll or the last roll. So at best I'd say take a break if you are feeling glum and come back later. Don't abandon it.

In this game there will be highs and there certainly will be lows, when everything is said and done it all evens out . The good thing about hitting a very low point is that there is nowhere else left to go except up

some days I hate it when I have a bunch of coins to cash in and dread to see a teller roll there eyes or a bank manager telling you you cant drop here unless you have a business account. dreaming at night where in the heck can I dump this stack of my rejects. but when all is cashed in and I cant get my hands on a box and the with withdrawals start. then I get a box and I get that hope that this box will be awesome to just get shot down with another skunk....ugh
but when your really down in the dumps walking down the street kicking a empty soda can and the phone rings and your caller id says boa is calling you jump in the old car you drive which is the bat mobile to you. and you walk out of the bank with your head high and your chest out not further then your belly but its out, that's the feeling that makes this so worth it to me. even better you open the box and you see an ender, and score big on a box, that's happiness, ( wait is this my life, yup I guess so) any ways once you get that taste its hard to quit..

holly molly did I get carried away here,,,

if you can really quit, then you are a strong person, and best of luck to you any which direction you take
