I just spent a half hour with Mark Borckhardt from Heritage at our local Starbucks going over my counterstamped Two Cent Pieces, using his copy of the new Brunk book. It is amazing, and expensive, so I don't know that I will be adding a copy to my library any time soon. Hence my need to use it for a little bit, I had asked on another forum about it, and he graciously offered to help me out! What a nice guy!

The book is found here: http://www.exonumia.com/fs/cm.htm the website also has a complete index to the book listed. I took 20 counterstamped coin photos along with me to the meeting, we were going to see how many we could attribute. Only 1 of of my coins was listed in the book, and it seems very complete! Guess I have some deceptive work to do on my own now. Still the book is very well layed out and has decent quality photos in B&W. Any collector with a large counterstamp collection should probably think about getting a copy of this reference book for themselves.

Yeah, I just did a little article on Pears' Soap counterstamps for our coin club's newsletter, so I referenced Brunk's work and that page - wish I had it in my budget to get that book now.

The Brunk book is great! I had a few extra copies and sold them at the FUN show. Don't hesitate to buy one, as it's a classic. It'll pay for itself, and even used copies will bring a good return when the time comes to part with them.

Out of curiosity, I just took a quick "head count" of pieces with Brunk numbers that are in my counterstamp database. Almost half, 49%, are unlisted by Brunk. The collection exceeds 2,200 pieces, and there are very few 20th century issues. Over the years, I've tried to focus on acquiring pieces that offered the possibility of someday being attributed, concentrating on the 1800's.

I had the honor of being a recognized contributor to the works of both Brunk and Rulau. I do hope that Greg Brunk eventually pens another catalog, perhaps a supplement. If he does, I can provide many hundreds of additions, and there are doubtless other collectors who can do likewise. I know a dealer who has over 4,000 counterstamped coins. I've long thought of counterstamps as the "final frontier" of numismatics. There's ever so much that has yet to be written on them; principally, information of historical interest.
