Aren't there any pre 1982 pennies that have certain features, like print errors or overall quality when looking through change? I've heard a stories here and there about a few zinc pennies in the late 80s to early 90s that are go for quite a bit of money.

Thanks.

There are a number of sites and books that can help you get started. Strike It Rich and the Cherrypicker's Guide are nice references to have around when looking up pocket change for valuable varieties and errors. Most varieties and error coins bring more intrinsic value than riches. But there are plenty of specimens that draw significant money. Take a look at Coppercoins and browse the years of interest to you. You might be surprised!

What about nickels?

Yes, there are a number of varieties and errors for each denomination out there to be picked from change. The two books I referenced have extended listings for coins of each denomination (CPG comes in two volumes, so depending on your interests, you may need one or the other or both). There are also sites for all denominations, however, the Lincoln Cents seem to have the best reference sites out there. Nickel sites are lagging, but are coming along.
