I've just been given five consecutively serial numbered 1974 $100 star notes. These are crisp uncirculated. Can someone give me an approximate value? Thanks.

What are the serial numbers and the Federal Reserve district?

I think those two things will be needed to be able to determine if there is a premium.

Thanks for the welcome. The serial numbers are 01746120, 121, 122, 123, 124. The district is G. (Chicago)

That info helps tremendously.

http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f1974_h.html shows that your five notes come from a 1,216,000 printing.

Generally, notes from runs of 640,000 or less are considered desirable and have a premium. Larger runs not so much.

With that said, I did find a pair of notes from the same district and print run as yours that sold on ebay for $434.99 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-100-St...047675.l2557

What your group would be valued at, I have no idea. There are collectors here who know the market better than I. Let's see what they have to say.

I'd say, if you can sit on $500 bucks for a while, try to list them on ebay for $1,500 BIN and see if you get any bites.

Also, to the CCF!

Most recent example of this note (Fr. 2167-G*) sold this weekend at the Long Beach Expo for $499 and was graded 66EPQ by PMG. Although $499 sounds great, I would find it hard for you to get that for raw notes. Depending on the quality of these notes, each one could be anywhere from $150 to $250 each. Considering they are consecutive, they have the extra 'cool' factor to them which could possibly add a small premium if you were to sell the entire lot.

These notes would be good candidates to get graded at some point. One number difference in the grade can make a huge difference in price.

Thanks for the replies and info. I've collected coins for years, decades actually. But when it comes to currency, although I do own a few old notes, I don't have much knowledge. But I knew once I looked closer at these bills that consecutively numbered star notes in CU condition should be worth at least a bit over face value. After reading WheatBack's reply, I'm seriously thinking about having PMG grade them. My interest is mainly coins, so maybe these notes will give me some funds to add to my coin collection. I appreciate the info you've given me, and I welcome anything else other members might like to add.

well if 2 can sell for 434 than 5 can sell for 1085
try to sit on them for a while (NOT LITERATELY) and
make an auction starting at 1.5k
