Post strike damage. Zinc melts at a low temperature, a torch could do this or even using it to short an electrical wire.

It's just a common 1 cent piece that's been mutilated by somebody.

I find the location of the mint mark interesting? The coin damage, not interesting. Make a good burial piece. The die state of this coin was nice, just a terrible thing to do to a coin. RIP.

I'm guessing spot welder or something like that. Maybe is solder. But you can see the black around the damage from high temperature.

Just zinc oxide. That is what happens to a zinc planchet when it starts to rot. It turns into zinc oxide with the oxygen in the air. Some zinc may have melted during the heating. But the reverse is all zinc rot.

This is just a damaged cent. Unfortunately its not even worth one cent for no store would take that coin. The garbage is the best place for that coin.

I don't think that is zinc rot on the reverse. It looks like two electrical contacts were placed on the coin and a heavy current passed between them. The heat generated by the current flow melted the zinc between the two ccontacts and around them.
