So, I got my very first negative feedback about a week or so ago.
Politely emailed the buyer back and was wondering what was going on, since the comments for the negative feedback was quite harsh. It stated:

Quote:
he sold me a forged coin, screwed out of refund by seller ebay and postal service

That wording is quite damaging since coins/currency is what I sell.

He replied quite fast explaining that the feedback was intended for another seller, and said he would start the process of removing the feedback he left me. This was sent through ebay's mailing system so they have access to the email.

but then...nothing.

emailed customer service 3 times now regarding the issue, and they also sent him an email reminding him. but they say that ebay cannot start a process of removing the feedback, which seems odd.

So as long as the feedback is up there, I'm very hesitant of listing new objects. I tried to minimize the damagage by commenting on the feedback, but not sure that will do much good

I don't want to call since some people think of it as quite intrusive to be called up.

I don't want to report the buyer either since it was an honest mistake.

What other steps can I take? Any and all ideas are much appreciated.

thanks

How long have you waited for him to start the process?
Try calling ebay about the issue. Explain the situation and say that the buyer has been unresponsive. Don't call the buyer, it's pretty disruptive.
Only report the buyer as an absolute last resort.

I got his first and only mail a week ago. the sale was from July though. I figured since it was through ebay's system, eBays could act on it as the mail stated

Oh I am sorry I had meant to leave this for a different seller. It was a 1904s Barber dime. I will talk with ebay and get this removed, I apologize I will clear this up. Your coin was nice and I had no problem

I talked to ebay through mail twice since then, and they havn't had any requests from him to retract the feedback.

He doesn't start the process, YOU do. Took me 10 seconds to search this, you could have been done with it by now.

Search "feedback revision" on ebay and that will show you how to do it. You have to initiate the process through the proper channels.

I did file a feedback revision, and he has 10 days to respond in order for the revision to pass. But since he hasn't been very responsive in the past...

I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope he'll resond

Is it as disruptive as negative feedback? I think not. The buyer made an honest mistake, fine. The buyer said he would clear it up, fine. But there would be a limit to my patience. It seems as though the feedback itself was either never going to be left for you since it was a sale dating from July and this guy made the mistake from a more recent coin he purchased, OR, this person is a procrastinator to the highest level. Either way, I would give him a working week at the most, and then call them directly. Why should you sit and suffer for their mistake. Just my opinion of course.

ebay doesn't monitor messages between members unless there is a reason to. So for ebay to read and act on your conversation with the buyer, you would need to alert them that there is an issue that needs to be resolved by speaking directly with someone at ebay and describing the situation. They can then look back at your conversation with the buyer if additional evidence/information is needed.

I my first mail to ebay, I asked them to look at the correspondance between myself and the buyer. In their reply, they agreed on that the buyer's mail was legit, but they couldn't act on it since the process has to be started by the buyer.

And now it's been a day, and still no response from my feedback revision...that email kindly states that if the buyer doens't respond, I should respect that. GAH!

and 10 minutes after this post, he revised it. Was abit scary though that it took 3 mail from me and two from ebay for him to react...
