Hello all,

Am I correct in thinking this is a Russian rouble coin? It is dated 1726 on the reverse.

Any information would really help. I am getting a picture of the reverse and will upload shortly.

Something tells me it is not real. but I can be wrong though. What is the weight?

Russia rouble- 1726 (per your identification)

The weight should be around 28.4
It is a $300 coin in VG (full retail).
A pic of the reverse would be useful.

I don't come across a lot of these as Russian coins are not my area, but the obverse bust doesn't look quite right. By this I mean the bust. The reeding also doesn't look correct.
With a pic of the reverse, confirmation of weight (and did you test it with a magnet?)and perhaps a Russian coin specialist/collector from these forums you may get a confirmation about authenticity.

I dont think is real.Lettering looks wrong and proportions are wrong as well.Here is pic of original sold by Stack's &Bowers.

This coin may be real. There are a few known varieties of these. Still need a picture of the reverse. This coin is worth a fair amount despite the low grade. Reckon it may hit closer to the 500 dollar mark.

Hi all, sorry for the delay in my reply. My camera broke before I could take a picture of the reverse but here it is, including the edge. I am going to weigh the coin tonight but it 'looks and feels' like silver if you understand what I mean. Also, the coin came from an old collector who has had it for many decades so were it not to be genuine it would not be a recent copy. Do these pictures sway anybodys judgement regarding authenticity either way?

Ok this is a lot more interesting than I thought.

This coin is not a ruble coin but a poltina or known as 1/2 ruble.

Fear not, this is a lot more valuable than a ruble coin. I am leaning towards genuine and if it is, this is definitely more towards a 1000 dollar coin despite it's condition.

Thanks for getting back to me gxseries. Funnily enough, just after posting the photographs I found this link to a coin that looks very much more like mine then the ruble i.e the slighlty skewed lettering etc. Are there any tell tale signs you know of ?

This is closest I could find.There is also some more varietes with misspelled obverse.Hard to tell from the picture.No suprise I couldnt find match in rubles
