i have this set of two coins in a polished wooden case but I cant read chinese and I would like to know more about my coins.

I can't help too much but they look to be just bullion 1 ounce rounds

Looks like a bullion round (with Confucius' face on it) to me too. The numbers are his birth and death year.

The Chinese inscription on the obverse side is "子 which translates as Confucius who lived 551 BC - 479 BC. (The software on this forum does not print certain Chinese characters.)

The inscription on the reverse side (top) is 衢州南宗"氏家庙 which translates as the Nanzong Confucian (Kong Family) Temple in Quzhou.

The inscription at the bottom is 南京e币厂制 which translates as "Made at the Nanjing Mint".

The Chinese books are the -語 known as the Analects written by Confucius.
