All your shots are great Chris. on the 1968 S though I am not positive that it would be rare as in the 60's the San Fran mint also minted circulation coins and worked just as fast and hard as the P and d mints. it is a nice error but rare not Gary

Yup, 1961D-1MM-001, D/D horizontal. Unfortunately some dope released close to 500 of these on the market a couple of years ago and destroyed its value. Was selling them by the roll...ruined the 7 coins I found that I had planned on selling at $20 each. I just kept them rather than sell them for the $5 they brought after that fiasco. Oh well, it's still a very interesting die variety.

Charles,
I really like the way you cut to the meat of it:-) when you say:
" Unfortunately some dope released close to 500 of these on the market a couple of years ago and destroyed its value."

I realize it would have been best for the value for the 'fool' not to dump them at all, but here's a thought: Maybe you should thank the fool for dumping them when he did. If he had waited to dump them he would have destroyed the value for the people who bought them from you for $20 each. And then you might have a few pretty disappointed people on your hands, which might have cost you more than $7X$15 in repeat business.
Even if you were totally blameless and didn't know how many were out there, you know that one ticked-off person can affect business more than a hundred happy campers.
Feel better? Well, I tried...

Bill, I know this isn't the ptoper place, but it definitely is the proper comment: Chick doesn't say much, but when he does speaak, he says VOLUMES! Chuck, have you seen Gary's post regarding a "similar 2006P-1DR-020? It look a little like the "025", but there are differences. New one, maybe" Dick

halfabustisbetter - Just hope someone doesn't dump their holdings of a stock you're counting on into the market all at once. Your stock will tank overnight. People who have something of value in quantity have to have some sense when dealing with it...and this particular dope didn't. It happens all the time where someone runs into a holding of something that has a lot more value as single pieces than the group, and most are wise enough to release them into the market slowly.
As for whether I had sold the pieces I had before the fall, it wouldn't matter. I didn't know the abundance was out there until they were sold. If I had sold mine before they were out there, neither I nor my buyers would have known they were about to tank. That's part of the market. I have some scarce die varieites here and now. Do I know they will hold their value beyond a shadow of a doubt? No. Do I know whether there are thousands more in a bag somewhere that some dope will dump on the market? No. So are you saying that since I don't know I shouldn't sell because someone out there might get upset if they buy from me and the next month or next year the items will be abundant and tank in value? Completely unrealistic.
Anyone with a few beans in their skull knows this much...if they are involved in a market, no matter what that market is, and discover a quantity of something in that market that could negatively affect the market if dumped into the market all at once, they hold their cards and release them slowly into the market. Simple as that. There are hundreds of people doing it now, including myself. It's the responsible thing to do.

I have to completely agree with Coppercoins on this. I have about 20 of them and I too was thinking of selling them shortly before they tanked. Now I will just hold them and hope that with the influx of new collectors that maybe sometime in the future the value will go back up.

coppercoins-- I don't think you understood the point I was trying to make. I owned a few shares of Enron, so I do know how it feels. I was just trying to look for any kind of silver lining I could. Sorry if you think I don't understand what you are talking about.
Also, I'm not sure what I would do if I had a large quantity of a variety or error everyone thought was exceedingly rare. There are some ethical questions involved in keeping my hoard under wraps I can't answer in pure hypothetical form.
