I received my Star Charts - The Quest coin today. Wow. It is a very nice coin. Incidentally, not only do the stars of the Big Dipper glow in the dark, but the sky glows slightly as it would at night, silhouetting the shape of the hunter and the background landscape.

Happy to hear that, I'm awaiting for one as well. With the enormous amount of coins being released a few nice coins are being over looked. I like that emily carr coin as well, I'll check it out in person the next time I stop by the coinshoppe and see it in person.

Hi,
I saw the Emily Carr coin. It is a very nice coin as well. My wife liked it as well. I was tempted but budget considerations held me back. If it still available next month, I will probably get one.

Specially, the accent on the package.

It may be a bit gimmicky. However no more so than say the glow in the dark dinosaurs, or for that matter a lot of today's RCM coins. Personally, I am partial to coins that have something to do with astronomy. Cheers.

Yes, the astronomy is fresh .... Just better to have it well done on the coin, rather than something to do with the external package.
Btw, I liked (but didn't buy) Southern Sky by RAM series, where the stars not painted, but struck in silver.

Any in-hand photos of that one?

I received my first Start Charts coin yesterday. It has a beautiful design that I find pleasing, but the stars on my coin don't glow in the dark (at all). It kind of puzzled (and modestly disappointed) me at first, but I'm over it now: I realize that defects like this get through quality control from time to time (I'm shrugging now). I'll probably keep my subscription anyway since I like the astronomy theme, too. Hope RCM keeps turning out nice designs.

@sturmgrenadier: I don't own the coin, but I did buy the GITD dinosaur series as a gift for a young collector in my life. For those coins, you had to subject the coin to direct light (e.g., place under a lamp) for 30 seconds or so to "energize" the GITD material before seeing the images in the dark. Did you try that with your new Star Chart coin? If not, give it a try.

Commems, thank you for the explanation. I feel like a dunce for evidently being the only person who did not know about this 'energizing' the Star Chart coin:( (I read the certificate of authenticity that came with the coin, but I don't recall seeing these instructions printed?). To answer your question, I have not yet tried putting my Star Chart coin under a lamp as you described, and I will unfortunately have to wait until this coming Friday (the next time that I go back to my parents' home) to try it out (that's where the coin is stored). I bet the glow in the dark effect works just fine on my coin when properly 'energized'. I will let you know on Friday if I still have problems. Again, thanks for the explanation. I don't post often here, but I enjoy reading these forums (they are a great resource-so many people sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for coins).

@Sturmgrenadier: i liked your reaction, when you described, that the stars are not glow. You didn't blame the mint for low quality production. Yes, your stars will glow some glow in the dark coins: **2012 - 2014 Canada Prehistoric Creatures 4-coin set (contact me, if you interested in this set for price lower, than everywhere) **2013 Aurora Australis by Royal Australian Mint **2015 New Zealand Kiwi (i like Kiwi series, and IMO, the GITD feature looks ugly on this coin)

It is too bad that the RCM did not treat this subscription like others and produce a box to hold the four coins. BTW, I purchased this coin at the MC event in August. Afterwards, I found out from the Coin Boutique that I had purchased only the single coin not a subscription (subsequently changed)as I had intended. Apparently, the Coin Boutique does not process subscriptions. Odd.

Can the mint add like a way to provide same COA in all subscriptions, would kind of look nice, and would make an attempt to prevent people from getting coins from other sources (in many cases at lower rates) as some people including me, would be willing to pay more for a subscription that I like, if I were to get same COA #. Not that it matters much but still.

they actually different handle the "set" and "subscription/set". Probably in order to be flexible (take care of case, when someone cancel the subscription). But to have the single COA, unique to the subscription-set - very nice.
