Sorry for the pic quality. I don't have the coin yet. These are the auction pics. You think it could pass for AG? I really have no idea. My first American coin this old and worn.

Thanks.

looks like it has good details but with the corrosion issues the net grade might be ag or fr.

Looks like G-Details. Possible Rim Cud at 11 o'clock reverse. NET to FR or POOR.

Hi,

I'd say it is a G-4 only if much of the residue comes off with acetone, for example, leaving no significant damage on the coin.

Otherwise I agree with zxcccxz that it should be a G details grade.

Basically this coin would grade between AG to G if it did not have the issues it has such as the scratches, corrosion, and possible cleaning. Because of the coins issues the coin in question will get a "details" designation. That is how you would get a "G4 Details" grade. For a "Net" grade, the coin is again evaluated graded as in "AG-G" condition and then loses "grade" because of the coins issues. I agree that this coin would Net grade Fair - Poor.

Oh ok thanks. So do you ask the grader to give you either a details grade or a net grade or do they just decide on their own?

Net grade is the final grade after deducting for defects/alterations of surface of the coin from things such as cleaning. A net grade will be used to determine a coins value while a details grade will give you an idea of the amount of wear present. Hope that clarifies the difference.

Good details, environmental damage making the coin only a "filler".
