It might be coin contact. Note how the last star is showing disturbance in the same direction? Note the base is also showing the same mark above the date area on the left.

I do notice the star. It just really looks like 2 Ss are there.

It is actually a rare contemporary counterfeit. Michael Fey did a write up in 2008 about I just got off the phone with him.
