Thank you mjjudd...I see the weights are listed for the coins. I'll have to compare...might be able to narrow it down.

4.8 grams and not iron per the magnet test. That leaves copper or brass. Any help appreciated.

Well from what I can tell it was minted between 1769 to 1825...afterward the coins were Iron. If you have more info or corrections please respond. Thx.

Hi AMB. I have a book coming in the mail soon ("Early Japanese Coins" by David Hartill) & it was highly recommend by another member. I'll see if I can find anything out for you about your 4 Mon coin.
Did you measure the coin?

Thanks packrat1...the coin is 1 1/16 inch (+) which converts to 1.06in to 1.1in or rounded 27-28mm.

I received my book & checked out all the different 4 Mon Kanie coin pictures & the one that looks closest to your looks like it might come from one of these Provinces: Asakusa or Musashi, 1821 - 25. I'm just going by what it looks like in the book so I hope it helps.
It's kind of hard to tell from the picture but is the coin somewhat reddish or dark?

Thanks Packrat1,...it's appears to be copper, has a dark but reddish oxidation to it. Really appreciate the effort looking it up. Thx.

looks like it goes with the Provinces I gave then. The bottom character (ei) on the coin looked like it was drooping as stated in the book so I went with that.
Now I get to use the book on all of my coins. Going to be fun.
