I found a 1970 Washington quarter that is very thin and weighs substantially less than a normal quarter. It is not due to excessive wear.

I did a quick search and found on Coin Trackers that there were some 1970 quarters struck on dime stock.

Is anyone familiar with this?

Thanks,

Yes - a Search is a terrible thing to waste! Glad you found it. This error occurred a few times over the years. Depending on condition, your coin could be worth $10-100.

Yes. It's the real deal. 1970 D, weak strike and weighed in at 4.2 g. at LCS.

That I'm not sure of.

That said, looks plausible. Curious about weight if you can confirm.

Quarter on dime stock 4.2g. I think this reference came from Condor101 a while back, but I've slept since then so I may be wrong. Thanks, Doug.

I forget who posted this, so I can't give proper credit, but I downloaded this chart from the forums.

Every time I think I am getting my head around the mass of general error types I learn about another one. This is one of the reason I love this hobby. No matter how long you have been collecting or how much you know, there is always something new (or to learn) around the corner.

Thanks for the info and keep it coming.
