Thoughts on the 9, maybe a double?

Just a guess, but it looks to me to be a Class 6 DD. Possibly the 1DO-002 or the 1DO-003 on coppercoins. You may want to check for markers.

I don't see a match on CONECA or coppercoins. A couple look close, but mint mark locations are different, the "4's" are different from those examples. So I would keep it safe for now it maybe a new listing? Maybe a mineral bath to clean out the mint mark. Good images of the date/mint mark area showing these devices will help when you are ready to send it in.

Probably a thread all by itself (if not already established) on the differences between coin conservation and coin cleaning. Think of all those crusty coins dredged up from the bottom of the ocean. There is a process to conserve the coins. Cleaning is more inline with polishing the dinner silver service.

Only certain things should be removed from coins. Just the gunk around the devices. Verdris, rust, corrosion, carbon spots, green color and acid cleanings are events that ruin a collectable coin if tampered with by dipping them. Somethings are better left alone. Experimenting on a coin should be practiced on circulation coins to get the procedure down first. If you don't know what you are doing, leave them alone. What is done wrong to a coin ruins a collectable coin for its future.
