I've found about 50 of these around in the register the last few weeks. I don't think they came out of the same roll but in hand they look like they came right from the mint. They do look like they have a rather poor strike though, a bit muddy.

The field looks pretty clean. Can you see any steps on the memorial?

Ya CopperCastle you can, sorry about the pics I'm still trying to get my equipment and technique down. It's a pretty good camera so I guess it's mostly me!

The fields are very clean, you are right though, the bust looks a bit mushy to me. It still looks like a great coin that is full red though.

Hmm, I've been hearing of this a lot lately.
And, isn't this about as good as the '68 busts ever got, detail-wise, due to a worn hub or something? It was replaced the next year.

Can't remember the last time I found an "S" in circulation.

Quote: And, isn't this about as good as the '68 busts ever got, detail-wise, due to a worn hub or something? It was replaced the next year. Yes. The hubs were worn so they all look mushy. They recut them all in 1969 and these are often sharp.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

My sentiments exactly! I've at least a roll of "S" pennies pulled out of circulation from other rolls.

I have found a large number of uncirculated red cents from the 1960's in the last year or so. I think it is the results of the people who were putting back BU rolls of coins throughout the 1950-1970's. Many were sure that the high prices paid for Unc rolls would return so a large amount of rolls were set back. It is now nearly fifty years later and the hoarders, or their heirs, are attempting to reap the promised profits and being told by the dealers "Spend them, we do not buy these." Perhaps in a few more decades they will be worth Two Cents each, perhaps not.

Depending on your location, "S" mint coins are more rare than you think. I have never found one in pocket change down in Florida (never got a box either). I've found, maybe 3 in the last 10 years home in SE VA. The one you posted is a beauty and you're right I'm finding a good many 68s in great condition. I got a beautiful 1963 D RB in change just yesterday. It looked like it came out of a UNC set.

I live near Tampa find 68 to 74 S cents regularly. Just lucky I guess. If I actually saved them I most likely would not see them.

68's are known to be mushy looking. Here in the Northeast I see on average 5-10 S mints per box that I go through. Only keep the above average ones though. John1

I've found that the "S" mint cents appear in boxes sporadically. There is a drought and then a number of them put in an appearance.
I keep all that I find and sometimes sell them at my coin club's auction. Not for a lot of money but enough to make it interesting for me. Although I only sell the unattractive ones. Those that are attractive I put into rolls for some later purpose.
I do admit, that I find them most often wile doing roll searching. I can't remember the last time that I've received them in change, but I must have because I've found a couple when I check my change every couple of weeks, but not much.
srcliff that coin is a keeper.

I agree with Ghostrider, your LMC is a keeper. IMO, Coins are a bit difficult photograph well, the coin you posted looks focused on one side and slightly out of focus on the other side. You might have to play around with the manual settings on your camera to take pictures of coins. Here is the Coin Photography link of this forum: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...?FORUM_ID=81Cheers
