I'm starting to get back into numismatics and this was my first acquisition--I'm wondering what you would grade it. These are seller's pictures; I haven't had time to take any of my own.

Thanks for the quick replies and the welcome!

As a kid, I collected coins for the fun of it. Now as a grown up, I'm realizing there's more to coin collecting than just fun (though that's my primary motivation). Is this coin worth getting graded at some point or is it more of just a nice-to-have?

No, I personally would avoid sending in obviously problem coins for grading.
Also, I recommend that you don't send in anything for grading under $150. Even for coins worth over $150, I say don't send it in unless you are looking to selling it or is in pristine condition. Or, when you are not sure of the authenticityâ€"but you can always ask that here on CCF and save the grading fee.

you do not want to grade that coin, its not a "collector grade" specimen as its cleaned and compromised. As long as you paid a decent price for it than its worth having around as an educational piece so you know the tell tale signs of a cleaning.

Buying raw to get slabbed is a fussy business that requires a very keen eye so you know you're grabbing the real goods when you see it.

Welcome back to the hobby and best of luck on your ventures.
