Been collecting (Hoarding) for some time now. I have never had any coins graded but I am wondering if I should get a few of my nicer coins graded. From all the reading and inspecting photos of particular grades I feel I have a few that could have major value added if I were to send them to a TPG. How do you find out if the coin should be graded?

At least worth over $150 I'd say. Also, no blatantly cleaned/PMD coins.

PMD is short for Post-Mint Damage. Any damage that occurs to a coin after it leaves the Mint is considered PMD (wear is not counted as "damage.")

A heads-up: if you click on PMD , it will lead you to the Numismatic Glossary where you can look up definitions of many numismatic terminology.

Thanks for that Matteproof. So I guess my next question is about the TPG price guides, Are they're values realistic?

ANACS usually has a special going. If you never sent a coin in to be graded, it just might be fun to send a few of your best in to see what happens.

Of coarse I have quite a few I would like to send in but I figured I would start with 2 Ikes I believe to be MS67. I also have some pennies I would like to submit as well. If the photo loads, here is the 1976 Ike

osiyo59, to the CCF. Glad you're here.

IMHO, w/ that large scratch on ol' Ike's neck, I don't think that would grade out at MS-67 at any TPG...

I thought that was a neck wrinkle. My other Ike has it but just not as pronounced.

I can't tell if the coin really has booming luster from those pics.
It looks more like a low MS with many bag marks to me.

IMHO, That Ike is not worth being TPGed. Post pics of the other coins you are considering having slabbed,we could save you some time and money.

Really? Can you tell that it's an Ike?

...another way of saying that the luster and clean surfaces are just not there.
The glare is just way too much to accurately see the luster and marks.
Many MS Ikes out there look lustrous from a pic with too much glare, but actually are heavily bagmarked, low MS coins.
