This is one of my only pieces of gold and I am sure the grading isn't great. However, I would still be interested in knowing about where it is, and what brings the number either up or down.

Thanks (last one today)

Not many scratches or nicks to be found on this one!
MS64, but a bit lightly struck.
Small scuff marks on cheek, and in field under chin.
Needs to be kept encapsulated because all gold around this grade level is SO sensitive to slight damage.

Thanks,

Would you ever consider sending one like this in? I actually like the coin a lot, since it is my first non US gold coin.

Not sure about the situation in the States but in several countries you can buy them at the bank at bullion value plus a small percentage (mixed grades, like you would expect) because the "Coq" is/was one of the common trade coinages - and plenty have been officially restruck. And many coin dealers trade them as well at bullion+-5% here in Australia.

Sorry if that disappoints you (other very common gold coins are most of the modern South-African, Russian and Turkish ones plus the Elizabeth II Sovereigns [many years of the older sovereigns as well])

It's true that many European gold coins of 1870-1950 are rather common. As long as you're aware of that I think they can be fun to collect as many are quite beautiful. I particularly like the turn of the century Netherlands Wilhelmina 10G issues and the Switzerland 20F "Swiss miss" coins.

I also like the art nouveau style of this France 20Franc.

As for grade: It appears to have strong luster with quite a bit of chatter on the cheek and several minor marks throughout. I would grade it MS64.
