They are apparently a new release product from Lighthouse this Fall. Since I was extremely disappointed with their Digital Microscope Camera product, I thought I'd first seek reviews from the forum from anyone who has recently purchased these new "clip-on" macro lens for smartphones. They are relatively cheap ($40, I believe), and I'm told they are versatile across various smartphone devices, and possibly across tablets too.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Cheers.

$40 seems like a lot. Look around the net like e-Bay or Amazon first.

It's cheaper than getting an expensive camera setup. Besides, I want to be able to return it if I don't like it.

IMho playing around with a smart phone just isn't ever going to get you the photos you would be proud of. As silly as it is( the product I am showing the link to) If you really want to stick with your smart phone then go for this. Even Sony has been shocked at the high numbers of pre orders they have received

The thing is, smartphone manufacturers are aware of every little thing that some other manufacturer is offering that their design isn't. Nokia now has a phone they are marketing as "a camera that can make calls". (The lumia 1020 boasts a 41 megapixel camera) That's not a typo -forty one!- The camera extends & retracts from the back of the phone when you zoom, just like a real camera. It's definitely a game changer, and other phone manufacturers are paying attention. I expect we'll see a lot more smartphone manufacturers building a design around the functionality of the camera in the near future. I have an HTC One, and while the internet & processor is fast, the front facing speakers are loud...The camera sucks. My next purchase is going to be based off of 2 things. 1)Battery life 2)Camera quality. I'm not alone in my desires & the money follows functionality. They know this. Expect to see a leap in camera quality very soon. "The Canon DSLR Phone"? It wouldn't surprise me.

It would surprise me a lot and is unlikely. Canon is only strong in the north American market every where else they are on the back foot. Its got to the point that Canon has made some bad marketing errors lately: thats included someone having to point out some footage canon showed was actually filmed on a sony camera...and more seriously claiming they produce the best sensors when all the independent lab tests state they are in a very definite second place. NIkon is more likely to be more innovative than canon

Yes there are some remarkable add ons for smart phones( thats what that link was about and it is the closest thing you will ever see to a DSLR phone ( minus the mirror). One manufacturer is putting out a phone with a curved camera sensor wen that gets into a interchangeable lens system... the prices of objectives will drop
